This week I wanted to have a play with paints and have ago at making my own backgrounds. I began by painting a piece of 12 x 12 white cardstock with my folk-art paints. I used my fingers and got messy. I started at the top with my darkest colour and worked my way down, creating a ombre blended look. Whilst the paint was still wet I used a spray bottle to create drips between the layers.
Once dry, I took a Bubbly Funk stencil and added it to the page with masking tape. I used textured paste directly on the page.
When the textured paste was dry I took a selection of stamps and black ink pad and added background around the textured area.
Next I created my embellishments. As the background was so bright and colourful, I wanted my embellishments to be monochrome and compliment, so I stamped them in white. I stamped matching leaves in green.
I also cut out leaves in green on my silhouette and a large tittle in Kraft.
I matted my photos and added them around the textured area and stamped backgrounds before I added all the embellishments using foam pads. I added gems to the flowers to finish and coloured in some of the paint brush images with markers.
I hope I have inspired you to get messy with paints and create pretty backgrounds.
