Tutorial – Recycled Card and Tag

This week I made a card and tag for you. They started life as a happy accident and was a piece of card that I cleaned my brayer on after a recent Gelli plate print session. The grungy mess produced would usually be destined for the bin but the painty pinkness just called to be recycled xx

Instructions

As mentioned, the background for the card and tag was created when I cleaned my brayer off after a gelli print. I then cut the card to 5” x 5” and cut out a tag about 6.5” x 3.5”

Card

Once my card was trimmed to 5” x 5”, I used my water colour pens to add more colour. I used a piece of acetate to draw on, then used a water brush pen to add the colour to my background, in random splashes of water colour. I used 2 shades of purple and a lighter pink.

I took a large selection of stamps and began creating my background. I stamped some large flowers direct to the card. I then masked them out and stamped text and grungy ephemera. I coloured in the flowers with the water colour pens too.

I wasn’t really happy with the flowers, so I stamped more flowers and coloured them with water colour pens again. I also made extra leaves and stems which I also coloured with water colour pens and stamped some text over them. I added them all onto the card with foam pads.

Once I was happy with the card and background, I added lots of mats to it before mounting on a 6” x 6” card blank. I added a sentiment to finish. I chose Mother’s day as that was coming up but it could easily suit a happy birthday or get well soon.

Tag

So I created the tag background at the same time as the card background, using all the same stamps but this time I stamped a bird image onto the tag.

Again I felt the bird image got lost in the background decoration so I stamped more bird images, leaves and stems out. I gave them all a water colour wash and let them dry before adding them to the card with foam pads.

I took a white ribbon, wet it and randomly added some of the same pink and purple water colour from the pens. I let it dry on my house radiator and got the cute stripey effect.

To finish, I added a stamped sentiment right in the middle of the tag.

I hope you like what I made with a “dirty “piece of card usually destined for the bin.
